Thuasne® invests in canadian medtech bionic power inc.
Restoring mobility to patients with cerebral palsy or stroke sequelae is now possible with advanced technology solutions. The Thuasne® group, a major player in medical devices in Europe, has announced its strategic investment in a company at the forefront of these innovations, Bionic Power Inc, a leader in MedTech in Canada, which develops intelligent orthotic devices.
While all eyes are on the American continent, the medium-sized French company, once again demonstrated its strong international growth and its contribution to health innovation.
At the heart of this project is the Agilik™ orthotic device, a merger between the motorization technology developed by Bionic Power, Inc. and carbon leg orthotic devices, of which the Thuasne® group is the world leader. Thanks to this exoskeleton solution, young patients, in particular, will be able to continue to walk, an activity made difficult by a degenerative disease, while older patients will be able to recover that ability lost because of a stroke.
The Agilik™ technology is based on 14 years of research, conducted with institutions such as NIH and the British Columbia Children’s Hospital.
Together with Hanger Ventures and Viscogliosi Brothers Watermark, Thuasne® helped generate a total of nearly 5 million Canadian dollars to support the expansion of Agilik™ – already marketed in the United States by Bionic Power Inc. – making it accessible in new markets.
Through this technological collaboration, Thuasne® will be reinforcing its position as the world leader in composite orthotic devices. Backed by its territorial footprint and its ability to project itself internationally through exports and foreign operations, this champion has grown into a powerful group, present in 110 countries thanks to its 19 subsidiaries on 5 continents, with sales of €281 million in 2023, 55% of which was from exports.
«We are excited to advance our Series A fundraising with strong strategic partners like Thuasne®, which validates our business model and supports our commitment to improving mobility for those who need it most» said Gualtiero Guadagni, President and CEO of Bionic Power Inc.
According to Delphine Hanton, Managing Director of Thuasne®, «This partnership strengthens our position as a global leader in composite orthotic devices and we are delighted we can offer our expertise for such a promising project.»
Elizabeth Ducottet, CEO of Thuasne®, adds, «The move towards motorized technologies is in line with the constant search for innovations and proven solutions in terms of efficiency that Thuasne has demonstrated for years.»
